This digital performance and workshop entails a collaboration between CUNY professor Ariana Mangual Figueroa (Graduate Center) and performing artist Kayhan Irani (Artivista). Fusing their work across the social sciences and narrative performance to tell grounded and socially relevant stories, this event invites educators (broadly defined) to consider their roles and responsibilities in relation to the communities that they serve, while reflecting on the communities they come from/carry with them. By modeling and inviting collaborative forms of storytelling, the event will guide participants through an experience of reflecting on their past, locating themselves in the present, and imaging new definitions of belonging that we can live into. This event includes opportunities for participants to listen and learn from one another in whole group and small group discussions that maximize online capabilities for interaction within Zoom’s breakout rooms, Mentimeter crowdsourcing, and Padlet threaded discussions. Following the event, attendees will receive a curricular document with artifacts from the event itself and resources for curating future discussions across educational settings.
