Strategies for Publishing Articles and Preparing Your Future Book

Event Details

  • Date:

Students are asked to write essays but are not often encouraged to publish what they write. This workshop, organized by Prof. Araceli Tinajero (City College), will teach graduate students strategies for transforming a paper into an article (expanding, editing, reviewing). Students will also learn about the publication process of articles, including peer-reviewed articles, as well as the titles of journals (print and online versions) where they can seek to publish their work. Participating PhD students will learn the process of transforming a dissertation into a book and all participants will learn the steps needed for editing a volume: selecting the topic, identifying authors, identifying editorials, writing a proposal, etc. Participants will be encouraged to hand in a 150-word abstract (or summary) of the paper, dissertation, or collection that they would like to publish to be shared with other audience members. There will be a breakout discussion followed by Q&A.
